Internal Parts Integration with SSP

Updated: Sep 11

I just have to rave about what I'm seeing over the past couple of years working with clients and the SSP Protocol (Safe and Sound Protocol). It's a therapeutic listening program that I began to integrate into my somatic psychotherapy and coaching work about two years ago. I actually sit with my clients, be in person, or virtually, as they take in the therapeutic sound frequencies and then we alternate between listening and content for some or most of a session. This truly has been game changing to see what opens up in my clients. They are more grounded and open, which makes it such a great time to work on content that is usually just too much to deal with. And it's gentle! So it's the opposite of a scary experience and so clients just keep asking to start their sessions with listening. I am so pleased to have this tool at my disposal. I am terrible about ever updating my website or writing content, and I'm going to try and be better about this (maybe I need a few more SSP sessions to loosen this block), but I need to share how incredible this modality has been for my clients.

Oops, look at me forgetting to explain my main point. Clients who present with cut-off parts of themselves, usually trauma related, are able to access those parts safely when I'm therapeutically working with the SSP and the somatic IFS parts-work hand in hand. It's a very, very slow process, maybe starting with 30 seconds of listening followed by a ton of somatic orienting and grounding. This of course allows times for the highly defended and scared parts to determine if they feel safe in the room and, if they do, they begin to remain present in the sessions long enough for my clients to become less afraid. This process of getting to know one's exiled, cut-off parts, is so integral to working on healing. Once this meeting and communication begins to form and blossom, it opens a pathway to deeper self-connection and self-guidance. We continue this process for as long as necessary until all the parts are present and accessible, and this is why clients are feeling more integrated in their personalities!
