The Safe and Sound Protocol

A Polyvagal Approach to Feelin' Swell

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a psychoacoustic listening program that, when used effectively with an attuned practitioner, begins to build the 'muscles' most responsible for safety and resiliency in our physiology. It's effective, powerful, and often life changing. The magic is between the listener and the practitioner. The filtered music stimulates the vagus nerve, which opens new pathways to experience. And the "in-between" resonance (think how patterns get laid between mother and infant) between listener and practitioner solidifies the new experiences into new wiring.

If you'd like to learn more here is a video of Dr. Steven Porges speaking with Forrest Hanson on the Being Well Podcast.

The beauty of the SSP program is that it works great virtually. You bring the headphones and I do the rest. It also builds solidly over time, so breaks are welcome and there is no rigidity to the structure. There are 5 hours of listening spread out over the course of many sessions. I typically recommend committing to 3-6 months of weekly sessions. SSP can be provided in the context of both Coaching and Psychotherapy.
